PRIDE LONDON is committed to furthering the rights and equality of LGBT people in London, throughout the United Kingdom and across the world. ‘Love Without Borders’ is our campaign for the universal decriminalisation of homosexuality around the world.
On Wednesday 4 July Pride London will be hosting its first ever international conference on ‘LGBT Rights in the Commonwealth’. Featuring a line-up of LGBT campaigners and activists from across the world. It will empower delegates with the facts surrounding the laws that criminalise homosexuality around the world, before exploring how recent successes in countries such as India have been achieved before focussing on the actions which are necessary to realise our dream of the universal decriminalisation of Homosexuality in every nation and territory.

This conference would be a valuable opportunity for those with an interest in Equality and LGBT issues in general including those with policy responsibility for LGBT issues within Government, Commercial and Voluntary Sector organisations. We are focussing the start of the campaign on the 41 Commonwealth nations where our Queen is Head of State and where homosexuality is still a crime with punishments ranging from imprisonment to death.
SPEAKERS
The conference will hear from six internationally respected campaigners from around the world. Including:
RizwanaYasmin - currently Secretary-General of Women Employees Welfare Association (WEWA), and WEWA is a Lahore based organisation that works on the progressive realization of women’s rights and interests that include preservation and protection of the rights of LGBT citizens in Pakistan, WEWA provides legal aid, support, trainings, advocacy, mentoring sessions and awareness.
Rosanna Flamer-Caldera - born in Sri Lanka and served 2 terms as Co-Secretary General for the International Lesbian and Gay Association and In 2004, she was a leading force in forming EQUAL GROUND the only mixed LGBTIQ organization in Sri Lanka pursuing LGBT rights. Currently she is also an advisor for the Global Fund for Women and the Hirshfeld Eddy Foundation. She has also served on the advisory board of the OUT Games Human Rights Conference.
Siddharth Narrain - part of the team of lawyers involved with the Naz Foundation case that involves a challenge to section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, India’s sodomy law. In 2009 the Delhi High Court decriminalized homosexuality in a highly publicized and widely acclaimed judgment. Siddharth helped organize the first three Bangalore Pride marches. His current research interests include media laws and censorship, gender and sexuality rights, and the politics of the Indian Supreme Court.
